Rugby Pagans have received an approach from a researcher for a production company. They are working on a series for The History Channel that explores Britain county by county. The approach states: "An important part of the series is finding great events and interesting people with which [the presenters] can get involved with, that will challenge them and provide a unique and energetic way into the history and culture of an area." Filming would take place over the weekend of 4th-6th November. I think the production company are ideally looking for an event, or ritual they can film, but further contact would be required between us and them to establish what they are really looking for. Obviously there are many issues connected to such an appearance that we should consider and discuss. For example: - Are we happy to do this as a group? - Who would be happy as an individual to be filmed? - What would we be happy to be filmed doing? - Are we concerned as to public perception? - Are we concerned as to being recognised in the local area, by people less receptive to alternative spirituality? - Are we concerned regarding the agenda of the production company? We would welcome all members thoughts on the forum and facebook page before deciding on a response to the approach. Blessings!

I don't have the History Channel. Need to find ou tif they are reputable or sensationalist.
Has anyone seen examples of this program of County by county history?

I get the impression that the particular programme is a new one so its difficult to gauge based on this.
Like you I don't have the history channel so have no strong feeling towards the channel.

More thoughts:
I'm away that weekend, so won't be taking part.
Rugby Pagans do not have a visually arresting or interesting display, we don't have a uniform or matching robes or even matching day clothes. It'd just look a mess.
We don't have a rehearsed or meaningful ritual to present.
There aren't really enough of us to look like a trhiving pagan community. I bet only 2 or 3 would appear and that would look odd, I think.
At this time, I'd say no. In another year or two, things might be different, but we're just not ready for this kind of exposure.

Rugby Pagans do not have a visually arresting or interesting display I tend to agree with this and have already made this point to them by email. Our principal function as a social discussion in a pub would not make for good television and we have no rituals planned. If we did have a ritual I am sure we could have drummed up numbers to make a good impression on TV. We have pushing 30 on here, a similar amount on facebook (not all of whom are on here) and some that come to moots that aren't on either. I did not so far rule out our involvement in the programme. I pointed out that, as Paganism is not always sympathetically represented in the popular media, making a series focussing on niche interests and groups, fronted by known comedians, might raise suspicions that the show is likely to poke fun at participating groups. I asked for re-assurance that this was not the case. Such re-assurance has not so far been forthcoming. With this in mind I personally would not be minded to agree to participate in the programme. It is still flattering to be asked though, and a good marker for the end of our first year. I stated I remained open to future contact if they still wanted to include us in someway and wished all concerned well with the making of the series whether we are included or not. I apologise if anyone feels aggrieved that I responded without them replying, but this matter has been available for discussion for a few days and with filming due to take place this coming weekend some form of response was needed.
