Whenever you celebrate this particular festival (I celebrate tonight and tomorrow) I wish you many blessings this Samhain.
I am interested to know how people celebrate so if anyone wants to put down a bit about what they got (will get) up to please feel free.
With a 7 year old and a three year old (not to mention the 8 month old) in the house it is difficult to get away from commercial Hallowe'en, so I don't really try to. My wife had to fly out to Japan on business this morning, so we tried to get a lot of the fun in before then.
We went to Kenilworth Castle on Saturday afternoon. As well as lookign around the beautiful ruins they decorated a couple of rooms as "The Dungeon of Doom" which culminated in a few tables set out for colouring in (note to Summerstorm aka Mrs Brook - this like the dressing up box was for the kids). There was also a hunt for ghost stories each of which gave a letter, which altogether spelt a Hallowe'en word, earning our two a bag of sweets each! We then took them home and told them to get their costumes on while we dashed round hiding chocolate eyeballs etc and put on the candles and CD of spooky sound effects. There was a party tea, apple bobbing (with a bit of lightweight divination chucked in for good measure), and a lot of dancing to Monster Mash and Time Warp among others. Just before bed I took orders on pumpkins before carving a skull, a spider and a witches cat against the full moon (executive decision on behalf of the 8 month old). Today I took them to see the Rugby Zombiethon in aid of the Air Ambulance (if they do it again next year, we'll be taking part!), then we went trick or treating in honour of the Lord Of Misrule.
Now they're tucked up in bed maybe I can at last get on with honouring the ancient dead and my ancestors, and contemplating the year ahead, for in the darkness new beginnings are found...
... but I wouldn't have it any other way. Love them to bits!
